last night i saw jeff mangum perform an acoustic set at Paramount Theatre. i am someone who has spent a large part of my life loving neutral milk hotel, and loving a life that has been influenced by wonderfully creative, seductively interesting pieces of music, writing, and art.
i've internalized the sound of jeff's thoughts and feelings the same way i consume poems by pablo neruda and the prettiness that stems from able hands. the entire set was extremely evocative and honest, and made me wish i could use my voice as an instrument that nudges people the way jeff's voice tugs at me every time i turn around.
awhile back i started my King of Carrot Flowers series, and i am thinking about starting it back up again. two in the series so far, for anyone who isn't already privy:
and here is some audio from the show last night. there is no video, so close your eyes and listen.
i’ve recently become a contributing illustrator for The Waster, an incredibly well-written music site that features interviews and reviews of some pretty sick (Black Keys, Silversun Pickups, The Roots) artists.
Waster held a NYE event in NYC with Anders Osborne, a Swedish musician/hitchhiker, and i had the priviledge of illustrating the review.

this illustration was entirely too enjoyable for me- in 2011, i’m hoping to illustrate more musicians.
i finally got around to doing another band poster- this time i chose one of my personal favorites: the moody and harmonious Grizzly Bear, who can color me always. the poster reads “my love’s another kind,” a quote from the beautiful “lullabye”.
when I clung to you there was nothing to hold on tight with, you left me adrift/Colorado, what now?
